Hollywood Star Opens VERL

Dundee-born actor Brian Cox has officially opened the Visual Effects Research Lab (VERL) at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee. Brian, who is the current Rector of the University and is known for films such as 'Man Hunter', 'The Bourne Supremacy', and 'Rise of Planet of the Apes', met with staff, students and local Councillors and viewed a showcase of some of the work that has been created.

As an element of North Sea Screen Partners, the facility aims to bring scientists, artists, clinicians, and filmmakers together and promote interdisciplinary research. It is also the focus for the new Visual Effects Research Network. The Lab offers companies the chance to work with the latest technology and the network is helping post-production companies to network and collaborate so they can get involved in larger and more lucrative projects. VERL has already been nominated for the Best Collaboration Award 2011 by Creative City Challenge.
