Dundee-made Short Nominated for BAFTA in Scotland Awards

'Meta', made by students at North Sea Screen Partners member Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee, has been nominated for the prestigious BAFTA in Scotland New Talent Awards 2011.

The film, a short sci-fi tragedy, was made by director Matt Cameron as part of his final year Degree Show for the Time Based Art and Digital Film course at Duncan of Jordanstone. Also involved with the film were fellow student and director of photography Ian Forbes, and producer John Fairfield, who graduated from the Time Based Art and Digital Film Course in 2009. Filmed in Dundee, 'Meta' follows young couple Mark and Grace and is set in the not too distant future, where technology and the desire to immerse oneself in virtual reality have become over-whelming. Beautifully filmed, with a compelling script and excellent visual effects, the film received critical acclaim as one of the highlights of the 2010 Duncan of Jordanstone Degree Show.

'Meta' has now received further recognition, with nominations at this year's BAFTA in Scotland New Talent Awards. Matt has been nominated in the Technical Achievements category for his Visual Effects work on the film, and John has been nominated in the Producer: Short Form category. Started in 1996, the BAFTA in Scotland New Talent Awards highlight BAFTA's commitment to recognise and reward individuals who have started to work in the Film, Television and video games industries.

Congratulations to the nominees and all those involved with 'Meta'. The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony in Glasgow on Thursday 24th March, so keep those fingers crossed!
