Films from Niedersachsen/Bremen in Cannes 2011

Six films supported by North Sea Screen Partners member nordmedia were screened at the 64th Cannes Film Festival this year. The so called Marché du Film is the biggest event in the international film industry and a unique opportunity to further projects.

nordmedia funded films in the 2011 edition included: SKATEISTAN (DEFilm/Ken Meyer), ALIVE AND TICKING (Wüste Film), THE BIG EDEN (Rohfilm), DIE VERLORENE ZEIT (Media Park), DER GANZ GROSSE TRAUM (deutschfilm) and BEDWAYS (Indie Spirit). Some films have been sold directly to other countries.

nordmedia was the co-host of several receptions in Cannes: The German Film Commissioner invited international producers to network and exchange information. The keynote was held by Michael Eckelt from Rivafilm (above, 4th from left) who recently finished two films shot in Lower Saxony and Bremen: LEG IHN UM and AN ENEMY TO DIE FOR. As partner of Focus Germany nordmedia hosted the Coproduction breakfast on the Festival Sunday which has become firmly established within the last few years. Focus Germany provides information regarding German film financing structures and funding institutions.

The nordmedia Business lunch is treated as an insider tip for delicious food and useful networking. CEO Thomas Schaeffer and nordmedia's Head of funding & development, Jochen Coldewey welcomed 30 guests. On the list: Festival directors like Alfred Rotert (EMAF), Torsten Neumann (Oldenburg Film Festival) and Volker Kufahl (Filmfest Braunschweig), Cinema operators from the region, journalists and producers with their current projects. It has been a great pleasure and honor for nordmedia to welcome director Uli Lommel, who is currently planning to shoot his next film in Lower Saxony and Bremen.
